I was driving to work. Everything felt fine.
Then—boom. That little orange light lit up on my dash.
Check Engine.
Instant panic.
Is my engine about to blow?
Is it safe to drive?
How much is this going to cost?
So, what did I do?
The dumb thing.
I ignored it.
Drove around with the light on for days.
Every time I turned the key, I crossed my fingers.
Finally, I caved and took it to a mechanic in Pawtucket.
Good news?
It was a loose gas cap. Literally. Just that.
They ran a diagnostic, tightened it, reset the system, and I was on my way.
But it could’ve been worse. Way worse.
That light doesn’t tell you what’s wrong.
It just tells you something is.
What I Wish I Knew:
Don’t guess. That light can mean 100+ different things.
Don’t wait. Small issues become expensive fast.
Just check it. Any decent mechanic in Pawtucket can run a quick scan and let you know what’s up.
What To Do If It Happens To You:
Light blinking? Pull over. That’s urgent.
Light steady? Drive safe, but get it checked ASAP.
